Born on November 16, 1981, in Belgrade, Serbia, Reverend George Popovich is a distinguished theologian and iconographer whose life and career span multiple disciplines, from sacred art to education and business. With a profound dedication to his Orthodox faith and an enduring passion for cultural preservation, George has left his mark on communities in Serbia, France, the United States, and beyond.
A Life Dedicated to Faith and Learning
George’s journey began in Pančevo, Serbia, where he attended Sveti Sava Elementary School from 1988 to 1996. His passion for theology led him to the Sveti Petar Dabrobosanski seminary in Foča, where he studied from 1996 to 2001, laying the foundation for his theological pursuits.
In 2008, George graduated from the Faculty of Orthodox Theology at the University of Belgrade, completing a rigorous program under Serbia’s traditional educational framework. His thirst for knowledge took him to Paris, where he pursued a master’s degree at the St. Sergius Institute, completing the Master 2 of his studies in 2011.
An Iconographer of Renown
From an early age, George was drawn to the sacred art of iconography and fresco painting. His formal training began at the Iconography School of Fr. Cedomir Milosavljević in Pančevo, where he studied from 1992 to 1996. He further honed his skills at the Žiča Monastery, under the mentorship of Proto-deacon Miodrag Tomić.
Over the years, George has undertaken numerous prestigious projects, including:
- Sacred art in the Monastery of Bavanište, Serbia (1999–2001)
- Contributions to churches in Paracin, Gacko, and Tvrdoš (1998), and many more…
- Working under the blessing of Bishop Chrysostom of Banat, George founded Iconographics Studio Logos in 1995, which continues to produce remarkable sacred works for Orthodox communities worldwide.
- Beyond his artistic achievements, George has also excelled in education and business. Since 2021, he has served as a Religious Education Teacher and Church Board Member at the Church and the founder of Iconography school of the Holy Three Hierarchs in Dallas, TX, where he continues to inspire and educate the faithful.
- In 2014, he founded Polar Stars Inc., a logistics and transportation company operating in Chicago and Dallas. His entrepreneurial spirit has enabled him to succeed in a highly competitive industry while balancing his commitments to faith and art.
- George also briefly worked as a Project Manager for Z Automation in Arlington Heights, IL, in 2011–2014, showcasing his versatility and leadership skills in industrial settings.
Languages and Citizenship
Fluent in Serbian, English, and French, George seamlessly bridges cultural and linguistic divides, making him an invaluable contributor to international Orthodox communities. His dual Serbian-American citizenship reflects his global reach and commitment to fostering connections across borders.
